Huawei Reportedly Working on Stronger, More Durable Displays for Mate 90
Huawei may be preparing a major leap in smartphone durability with its upcoming Mate 90 lineup, expected to arrive in 2026. Early reports from Chinese tipsters indicate the company is testing a new generation of display protection designed to improve resistance against scratches, impacts, and everyday wear.
According to leaks shared on Weibo, the technology could build on Huawei’s existing Kunlun Glass platform, which has already been featured in several of the brand’s premium devices. The next version is rumored to introduce a more advanced protective layer that integrates directly with the display panel, potentially offering stronger real-world protection than conventional screen shields.
Huawei has steadily improved its screen durability over the past few product cycles. The Mate 80 Pro Max introduced second-generation Kunlun Glass, reportedly delivering a substantial increase in drop resistance compared to earlier models. The company’s Pura 90 Pro Max also drew attention for combining anti-reflective display technology with significantly better protection against scratches and accidental drops.
If the current rumors prove accurate, the Mate 90 series could become one of Huawei’s toughest flagship smartphone ranges yet. Beyond durability upgrades, the devices are also expected to feature a next-generation chipset based on Huawei’s LogicFolding architecture, along with improved camera capabilities aimed at strengthening the company’s position in the premium market.
